My weekly blog is live music recommendations around the Bay Area including info on venues as well as music documentaries to watch both in theaters, Netflicks and TV. 

Let’s start with this weeks Silver Star picks of the week which are both happening at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, California. On Saturday it’s Zigaboo Modeliste and the New Aahkesstra  and Tuesday, we have Laura Cortese and the Dance Cards.


Saturday – October 21

8:00pm –  Zigaboo Modeliste and the New Aahkesstra

  • Freight and Salvage (2020 Addison Street, Berkeley, California)
  • Time to get your funk out with one of the greatest drummers on the planet.  I saw this group before and they are funky…!

Sunday -October 22

7:00pm –  Commander Cody and his Modern Airmen

  • Rancho Nicasio  (1 Old Rancheria Road, Nicasio, California)
  •  This legendary music visionary has put together a rockin’ fun band.  I saw them last year and they were fun!!  

5:00pm – Ramblin Jack Elliot

  • Hopmonk Tavern   (224 Vintage Way, Novato, California)
  • For over a half a century this Grammy award winning artist has been an icon of folk music. He is a great entertainer.

Monday – October 23

6:30pm-11:30am –  The Earl Brothers

  • Amnesia Bar (853 Valencia Street, San Francisco, California)  
  • A fun raucous Bluegrass group. Well worth seeing in concert.

Tuesday – October 24

8:00 pm – Laura Cortese and the Dance Cards

  • Freight and Salvage (2020 Addison Street, Berkeley, California)
  •  A great folk rock ensemble. Highly recommend.

Wednesday – October 25

6:00-9:00 pm – California Tallboys

  • Club Deluxe (1511 Haight Street, San Francisco, California)
  • Fun bluegrass traditional acoustic music band.

Thursday – October 26

7:30pm – Friends of Old Puppy

  • Bird and Beckett (653 Chenery Street, San Francisco, California)
  • Very cool band.
